Learning a new machine
Not long ago, I purchased a carverall K15 laser engraver on marketplace. It sat in the shop for about two months before I decided to figure out how to use it. At first, it was just putting my logo inconspicuously on all of my projects.
Eventually, I learned how to make business cards out of 1/16 inch basswood, plaques, and artistic engravings.
One of the biggest lessons I learned is always use double-sided tape to keep the workpiece in position while the laser is doing its thing. Murphy’s Law says that 90% through the job, something will hang up or shift, and it only takes a tiny bit of movement and everything becomes misaligned, and there’s no undo button with a laser! That can be a significant waste of time - considering, for instance, that the eagle shown above took over 90 minutes to engrave. And yes, that’s exactly what happened the first time around.
My word of advice to you? It’s much easier and less time-consuming if you learn from my mistakes instead of making your own.😆
Pirate out. Have a great day!
