End-Grain Cutting Board
End grain, which is the slow way to build a board and the right way. Every one of those little squares is a block stood on its end and glued back up, so the knife goes down between the fibers instead of across them. It's easier on an edge and the board closes back up behind the cut.
Light hardwood through the field with dark stripes run the length of it. The flame figure in each block is the end of the grain looking back at you — you don't get that pattern any other way.
